Dog Days of Summer, Desert Style |
The ranch is not the place to be in the
summer and that's why there haven't been any updates for a few
weeks. This file photo of the thermometer on the side of
Cattle Pen indicates why. And this picture was taken in the
late afternoon after it had "cooled down."
Fortunately, cooler weather is just around the
corner. By mid-September it should be comfortably warm and by
the time of the rally in October it should
be shirt sleeve.
Speaking of the rally,
there is recent good news from nice people in government positions
regarding the wheeler portion of the event. I earlier mistook
the prohibition of a "competitive" event from an "organized"
event.
So, it looks like the wheeler portion of the
rally is on again. However, IT IS NOT A RACE and there will
not be awards for finish position. Racing is prohibited and
will be monitored. We want to stay on good terms with the BLM
and enjoy such events in the future. It is intended to be a
leisurely desert drive while abiding by the driving rules of the
Mojave National Preserve.
The rally page will be
updated soon to reflect these changes. The rally t-shirts are
ready as well and a picture of what they look like will be posted. Shrimp cocktails for the wheelers is on again!
That's Funny
I've learned that you don't
have to be drunk all the time to enjoy life. Half the time
works just fine.
