| Jake's Place Gazebo |
There is a little known landmark
in the Mojave accessible only by off-road vehicle known as "Jake's
Place." It is also referred to as "The Mercenary Camp"
depending on who you talk to who has visited it. Unfortunately,
this compound is now abandon and it's history is beginning to crumble
along with its structures.

It looks like whoever owned Jake's Place in its
heyday knew how to party and have fun. The heart of Jake's Place
is a small house with indoor plumbing and electricity. There is
a player piano that still works and has that tinny
"Saloon" sound to it.
A spiral staircase leads to a railed flat roof
that overlooks a now empty pool. Nearby is a military style troop
hauling vehicle. A very large totem pole lies flat on the ground.
There are so many other fascinating artifacts too numerous to list
that tell an intriguing story on the lifestyle of its owner.
It would be nice to see someone restore Jake's
Place and perhaps turn it into a functioning watering hole for desert
travelers. We here at the ranch feel a duty to learn more of the
history of Jake's Place and post more pictures in the future for
our readers.
