My trusty sidekick Patrick Moore
and I set out this weekend to put his new Honda Rincon ATV through
the paces of desert use. We arrived Thursday night and were greeted
by flyers Kurt Colvin and Pat Fagan who are repeat offenders to
visiting the ranch and their nice friend Larry. It was a good time
had by all.

Unfortunately, the Flyers were not able
to stay as long as us ground dwellers due to other commitments
but they finished up a long trip through four states with a spectacular
formation fly-by which is worth downloading whatever is needed to
view this video.

Pat and I toured the local landscape
or our ATV's. This picture was taken about four miles southwest
of the ranch. The dry lake bed that the ranch sits on can be seen
in the background.
Pat's 650 Honda Rincon is quicker off the line
and faster overall than my 450 Yamaha Wolverine which tops out at
52 mph. His Honda also has more ground clearance and several more
bells and whistles including a GPS. It is more expensive, heavier,
and bigger than my Wolverine which is difficult to see from this
picture as the Honda is further away.
The Rincon is a fine vehicle and the Wolverine
has performed for me no less than what I could ask for. The only
thing I could ask for in lieu of a trip odometer would be a gas
gauge which the Honda has.

Longtime visitors of the ranch Steve and Anita Spangler
came by in early March after attending a weekend long geological class
in nearby ZZYZX sponsored by the UC Fullerton. Attending with them
were friends Bob and Julie.

Steve and Anita are always a pleasure to be around.
You will never meet more decent people who are more fun to hang
out with. Steve, an A&P by trade, amazes with his many original
inventions including a pressurized off-road vehicle system which
keeps desert dust out of his Toyota Tacoma and a camp site flood
light which can be seen in this picture.
