| Las Vegas Bound Overflyers |
A recent Friday was an unusual day
of the week for me to be out at the ranch as I'm usually there on
Saturdays. On Friday day-trips I have to put up with the hordes
of Los Angelinos jamming the 15 freeway into Sin City.
The congested freeway isn't always the worst
of it. Often times there is a wreck that can back up this already
jammed freeway for miles making for a very long and frustrating
drive.
Some people just can't wait to get to Vegas fast
enough to lose their money. That's one of the many things I like
about this remote property. Once I fight my way to the Basin Road
exit on the 15 and head south into the desert it's just me and the
jack rabbits, baby.

| Ranch Location on
LA Sectional Chart |
I noticed on this Friday that
small airplane traffic into Vegas was relatively high also. The
ranch sits just a smidgeon to the southeast of Victor 21 on the
Los Angeles Sectional Chart and is a common route between the two
cities.
I must have seen an average of about one small
airplane an hour throughout the day where as on other days I see
two or three total. That's another thing I like about this area.
It's so quiet out there that you can hear just
about anything with wings long before you see it with your eyes
whether it's a jet at 35,000 feet or a bird a mile away.
With each overflying airplane
I did my best Lieutenant Uhura effort of "hailing" these
guys on the ranch CTAF of 122.8 but with no success. There just aren't
many people that know about this place as much as I try to get the
word out. What a shame that is. At least for me, anyway. The
next time I get a "shiat howdy" on 122.8 from anybody
flying overhead, whether it be the Space Shuttle or a powered parachute,
I'll send them a Bacon Strip Ranch T-shirt or cap. Thursdays and
Fridays are your best chance.
| Use Caution Using Outhouse! |
It has come to the attention of management that there
is potential trouble in ranch paradise. I hate to have to dump this
on ya'll.
Spider webs have been observed inside the outhouse.
Although no spiders have been seen, these webs are much like what
a Black Widow spider would weave.
Since seeking relief could end up biting you
in the ars, on my next trip I will drop a bomb in the hole...one
manufactured by Raid...
In the meantime just be careful. As my late Aunt
El would say, "Ah, just piss on it!"
