$100 Hamburger Reaches Record High! |
Someone finally had to do it.
The high brow Boca Raton Resort and Club in Boca Raton, Florida
has come out with the hamburger that breaks the threshold of $100.
Actually, with tax and mandatory tip (of course) this sandwich costs
$124.50 out the door. Didn't somebody tell these guys that the "$100
hamburger" was just a phrase used by aviators? After all, what's
a meta for?
We all knew this would happen eventually with
inflation. But with an average annual rate of 3.49% on a $5.95 burger
today it shouldn't have happened until around the year 2023.
Granted, this is a quality burger. The patty is 5 1/2 inches across
and 2 1/2 inches thick and comprised of beef from three continents;
American prime beef, Japanese Kobe, and Argentine cattle. Good thing
they stopped here because cows from more continents would have been
overkill.
This burger also comes garnished with organic
greens, exotic mushrooms, and tomatoes. I'm sorry, but I'm not buying
it. Even if garnished with exotic dancers it's not worth $100.
Restaurant owner Marc Sherry says his burger is, "Heaven on
a bun." Okay...But that doesn't make up for, "Hell on
the wallet."
My beef now is that this restaurant has messed
with aviation tradition. The "$100 hamburger" now has
to be called the "$200 hamburger." This is going to change
books and training manuals everywhere. Great, this will drag on
with the FAA and FFA for years to come.
The restaurant inside the Boca Raton Resort serving this burger
is the
Old Homestead Steakhouse which has two other locations in
New York City and Atlantic City. All kidding aside, this restaurant
has a lot of tradition and is very nice. Just looking at their website
with the music clicked on had me wanting to fly across country to
eat there no matter what they charge. That's the sign of a classy
restaurant.
If you go to their New York location you can
get their hamburger for a much more reasonable price of $41. Okay,
I'll stop here.
