| Union Pacific train
at Crucero |
Yes, we have the big three out
here and this week the lesser of them gets its fifteen sentences
of fame.
Something big is going on with the Union Pacific
railroad line just three miles to the north of the ranch and I can't
figure out what it is and nobody is talking about it. It's a conspiracy,
I tell you.
On my last trip to the ranch before temperatures
starting reaching one hundred and stupid, I noticed a significant
amount of railroad construction. At the Basin crossing a previously
vacant square of land with about 200 foot sides now hosted a construction
trailer surrounded by a chain link fence.

| Water station |
Further east along the line
were several earth hauling semi-trucks. There was a water station
along the way where there was nothing before.
Three new railroad crossings were laid between
Basin and Crucero. A stretch of land running along the north side
of the tracks was finely graded into the width of a two-lane road.
What's going on here? I've searched the internet
for articles and found none. A query into Union Pacific headquarters
has gone unanswered. I suppose if I just asked the guys working
on it that day I could have gotten an answer.
I'll get back to you when I find out what is
happening. It was a summer project and is probably close to being
finished if not already.

This is one of the most common dishes at the
ranch and one we've been doing since we first brought a Weber barbecue
out there. It's good for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. It's true
camping food and very simple.
No, it's not made of real snake meat but there
will be recipes posted in the future that are. Sssss...
Ingredients
One package Hillshire Farms Smoked Sausage (other
sausages may be substituted but this is our favorite).
One package burrito sized flour tortillas.
One small white onion.
Bottle of KC Masterpiece Original Barbecue Sauce.
Salt and Pepper.
Instructions
Fire up barbecue. Slice onion into 1-2 inch strips
and place on sheet of aluminum foil large enough to wrap and cover
onion slices. Salt and pepper onion slices to taste. Wrap foil around
onion slices and place on grill.
Cut sausage into four equal lengths and place
on grill. Cook sausage 10-15 minutes turning occasionally. Sausage
is done when it starts to split and blacken in spots.
Remove sausage and set aside. Place two or three
tortillas on the grill and heat each side for 10-15 seconds. Set
tortillas aside.
For each Snake in a Blanket, place sausage into
tortilla, cover with onions to taste, spread with barbecue sauce
to taste, wrap tortilla around sausage, and put in your mouth to
taste!
