| Ranch Runway Partially Flooded |

Dry lake beds make excellent runways
until it rains and then they become lakes again. It happens to the
best of them. The Space Shuttle would be toast landing on the dirt
of Edwards AFB after a rain. The Bonneville Salt Flats become as
slick as snot.
So is true with Bacon Strip Ranch which relies
on a dry desert climate to make a runway comparable to the best
NASA has to offer.
This weeks trip found the runway flooded with
the possibility of more T-storms on the way. Normally, this kind
of monsoon type weather is common in August but now it looks like
it waited for September.
Even though flooding conditions are normal this
time of year, the weather is such that it only takes a day or two
for the dry desert climate to dry the water out.
In the few hours these birds enjoyed sunning
themselves on beach front property, the waters were receding noticeably.
It's a rare sight to see these long legged flyers.
