Airstrip
For those who like the thrill of bush flying,
adjacent to Bacon Strip Ranch is a dry lake bed that serves as a
landing area.
It is possible to land on the lake bed and taxi to a tie-down area
within the boundaries of Bacon Strip Ranch.

The location of the dry lake bed
the ranch sits on the Los Angeles Sectional Chart circled in
blue. The city to the west is Barstow, California.
Satellite View

Adjacent to Bacon Strip Ranch
is a dry lake bed that serves as a landing area. This photo was
taken while the lake was slightly wet which clearly shows two
"runways" across the lake bed. Oriented north, this photo only shows
the western one-third of the dry lake where as the picture below
shows the entire lake.
The longest runway on the top is 6/24 which is smooth and about
3000' long.
The east/west runway on the bottom is actually three separate
runways butting up to one another in a shallow "Z" pattern with each
leg being 10 degrees off the other. Each leg is 1200' long. This
area has tire ruts running through it as it is the main land vehicle
route through the lake. However, some fly-in pilots have mentioned
that the ruts were not deep enough to be of consequence.
The windsock is located at the confluence of the two runways.
Practical View

Oriented northeast, this
photo shows what the dry lake bed will most likely look like to
visitors flying in from the southwest. Quite a difference from the
above photo.
When the lake is completely dry, which is 95% of the time, the
runways are faint and almost indiscernible until you get close.
The two runways can be seen running diagonally across the photo.
